Boulder Science Festival

The Boulder Science Festival will be a fun, 2-day family event held on October 12&13, 2013, to showcase the amazing science being done in Boulder, CO.

Boulder is a town known for many things, but what most people aren't aware of is the incredible amount of cutting-edge science being done here. Research centers dot the city investigating everything from the air we breathe, the food we eat, the climate at the Earth's poles, to the environment around Saturn. This will be a combination of talks by scientists and active participation in a Science Carnival with exhibits, hands-on demonstrations and nature hikes.

On October 13 and 13, 2013, you'll get a chance to hear all about it, and even participate! We'll have talks from engaging Boulder scientists about the work they do, and why it's important to all of us. We have Dr. Carolyn Porco, Cassini Imaging Team leader, to show us pictures of Saturn and talk about how we know its moon Enceladus has an ocean of liquid water under its surface - and the possibility for life. Astronomer Phil Plait will talk about the Curiosity rover currently tooling around Mars. We'll also have talks about alternative energy, the arctic and Antarctic environments, the geology of Colorado's magnificent Front Range mountains, and even a talk by a Master beer brewer.

On Saturday afternoon, October 12, there will be an outdoor Science Carnival, with lots of hands-on demos where you can make a comet, to hold an asteroid in your hand. There will also be a sampling of local beers and live music by the band Danielle Ate the Sandwich.
